- A Gardener’s Shopping Spree
Shopping for plants is one of those highly motivating tasks for a gardener. This is especially true if you have been bored by the same old look of your backyard for weeks or even for months. It is quite customary to see gardeners changing the habitual places of plants from time to time, but is this an ethical thing to do? After all, plants have life too!... - Architectural Survey
Architectural Survey - Boundary Surveys
When buying a property or a building you may be grappled with many uncertain situations such as whether the property boundaries are accurate or whether the neighbor’s boundary or fence is at the correct position. Is the building at the right place without violating the local authority laws? - Topographic Surveying
Topography is generally known as the study of earths surface, and its features and shape. It also gives the description of the features (such as surface, shapes, vegetation cover & elevations), depicted in maps which are called “TOPO. In essence, topography mainly concerned with local details such as vegetative and man-made features including local history and culture. More specifically, topographic surveying involves the gathering information on terrain, three dimensional details of the surface including recognizing the specific landforms. In modern terms, it is the generation of data digitally or electronically. The outcome of topographic survey is the graphic representation of a given land parcel on a map using several techniques such as contour lines, Hypsometric tints and relief shading. - Monumented Land Survey
This type of land survey is a land survey in which monuments are used to mark the boundaries of a specific land parcel. You may want to know what is a monument? Its a physical object placed on ground to mark the location of a position. For example, the corner monument of a property is an iron rod with sufficient length driven vertically into the ground and the top of the rod is at the same or slightly below natural ground level. For identification purpose, a cap (indicating the registration number of the surveyor) on top of the monument rod. In addition it is useful for title insurance purposes as the Surveyor is interested in clarifying the title commitment and legal description and exceptions for the subject property. - High Precision Surveying Using Total Station
The Total Station (TST) is one of the widely used electronic or optical instrument in modern saving. It has been used by many people such as archaeologists (to record excavations) police,(crime scene investigations or private accidents), insurance companies and other numerous surveying applications. If you examine the total station, you will notice that its an electronic theodolite (transit type) coupled with an electronic distance meter (EDM) which can be used for distance measurement of particular land area. - Aerial Mapping
Aerial mapping usually called as Photogrammetry can be used to map large areas efficiently and faster compared to traditional surveying. It captures the horizontal and vertical features of topography of large extent of land. This method uses a series of aerial photographs to create a stereoscopic image of the area. Each aerial photograph taken should include or cover several points which has identifiable XYZ coordinates. Considering these known points, an accurate digital terrain model is developed for the surveyed area. The digital terrain model will provide you the exact horizontal and vertical information using the photos. More specifically, the Aerial photography is mainly used by:(1) Cartographers and planners who obtain detailed information and measurements from aerial photos for turning out maps. (2) Experienced and trained expert interpreters make use of aerial photos to ascertain the land-use patterns and environmental conditions including many things. - GPS Engineering Survey
Geographic Positioning System (GPS) applications are widely used in engineering surveys such as in site surveying setting out, check and compliance surveys. The application of GPS become very complex and demanding, when it is used in engineering projects such as bridges, dams, tunnels, high rise buildings which require precise deformation measurements. In essence, GPS has been a popular tool for long term monitoring of civil engineering structures. Hence, GPS application on engineering survey implies accuracy and reliability. - Global Positioning System (GPS) Surveying
Global Positioning System (GPS) is new tool used for either positioning of ground locations or as for surveying. It has become very popular among professionals ranging from surveys to engineers to archaeologists. Many of them have are using GPS on their survey work. For many of us, GPS may seems complicated, but the principle is very simple. GPS stand for Global Positioning System which is a tool used for locating ourselves on the earth. This tool ( based on satellite communication system) was used by United States Military and later extended to civilian use. - 3-D Mapping
The recent advances in technology has resulted in 3-D Mapping software which has been very popular among engineers, planners, mapping technicians, surveyors, and GIS professionals. The LIDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) Contour mapping is one of the 3-D technology used by professionals. This is very fast, cost-effective, high accuracy, high density elevation data generation mapping application for topographic surveys. Similarly, there are other 3-D mapping software available for the surveying professional. For example, Auto-CAD Map 3d software that allows direct access, edit, visualize, and analyze a broad range spatial data and CAD information using popular AutoCAD software. - Hydrographic Survey
The hydrographic survey is used to collect information on navigable water bodies for safe navigation of vessels. For example surveying of any navigable waters such as lakes and rivers and oceans. However, it is mostly used in marine navigation. Hydrographic surveys are essential and widely used during planning, design and construction stages of offshore oil fields and structures. - Building Survey
A Building Survey, earlier known as a Structural Survey which is carried out independent to the lenders. It is a recommended for all residential and commercial properties. This is a comprehensive survey which describes or gives the complete picture of the building construction and condition. - Building Surveyor
This type of survey is most comprehensive and costly. It can be used for any building, however it is mainly recommended for very old buildings (which are older than 75 years) that are constructed using traditional building materials such as bricks, timber or thatch roofing. The comprehensive building surveys are essential when old properties which had been subject to many alterations or extensions which may need lot of alteration or renovation. - Property Surveyor
Property Surveyors provide advice on various aspects of property and construction. For example, their role (in design, repair, refurbishment, restoration and maintenance work) has been recognized recently. In essence, a property surveyor’s involves in investigation, planing and managing proposals for either build new projects or organize the refurbishment of existing sites. In doing so, he considers both the social and physical effects on the built environment including the commercial feasibility of any project. - Construction Surveyor
The Construction surveyors carryout measurements and advise engineers, architects, contractors and other associated professionals, during all stages of construction projects. Thus the construction surveyor takes an important role on construction of bridges, houses, skyscrapers, underground tunnels, pipelines, utility networks, refineries, shopping centers, and offshore oil rigs and the list is endless. As we know, the construction surveyors have to get involved at various stages of a project. In most of these projects, the construction surveyor has to get involved at the initial stage of the job. They are responsible for verifying the accuracy of construction when any structure is being built or subject to modification. Once the construction job is completed, they check the construction to ensure whether work is completed in line with the original plans and local authority requirements. - Construction Surveying
Construction surveying is the actual setting out of physical points on the site so that the construction can be done accurately. In essence, the construction plans are interpreted and the exact location of the structures are established for smooth construction. The construction surveying is an essential item in any construction work either in urban, or suburban or rural areas. For many construction works such as building, highway or other man made improvements involves some degree of construction surveying. The construction survey not only provides the horizontal location of an improvement projects but also provides the vertical information. For example, the buildings or structures are constructed vertical accuracy and the surface storm water drains and pipe lines are laid to correct gradients ensuring proper flow. - Property Surveys
Before investing or buying a home, it is important to find out the overall condition of the property. This will help the buyer to reveal whether there are any work to be done to the property before taking a decision. - Land Surveyor
Land Surveyor is generally plans, organizes, and directs work on surveying as well as surveying teams. More specifically, his work involves determining accurate location and measurements of points, elevations, lines, areas, preparation of maps, land division or partitions, contour survey for civil engineering construction, land titles and many other related purposes. He also carryout detailed evaluation or examination of previous survey work, maps, deeds, physical evidence, and other records to obtain secondary data needed for surveys. Similarly, he collects new data from photogrammetric information. The Land Surveyor has to be methodical and should have attention to detail. As such, he has to Keep accurate notes, records, and necessary sketches to give precise information including certification of work performed. The Land Surveyor is a key person who will liaised closely with engineering and architectural professionals, clients, and other stakeholders concerning the legal and project specific surveying on civil engineering projects. In essence, he assumes legal responsibility for work and is licensed by the government. - Photogrammetry
Photogrammetry is a scientific method of measurements using photography. In essence, it is a measurement technology using the three-dimensional coordinates of points on an object are established through measurements taken using several (two to three) photographic images taken from different angles. The outcome of photogrammetry is a map or drawing or a 3-dimensional model of an actual object or a scene. Most of the maps available today are creation of Photogrammetry or aerial photos taken using aircraft. Also, Photogrammetry can be considered as a reverse process which convert the 2-dimensional photograph to a 3-D image. - LAND SURVEYING
Land Surveying or Surveying involves measuring of dimensional relationships between points, lines, and physical attributes on or close to the Earth's surface. In essence, surveying involves measuring of horizontal distances, elevation differences, directions, and angles. Once these basic determinations or measurements are obtained, those are used later to the calculation of areas and volumes and to the fixing of locations concerning some coordinate system.
