You have worked hard and got a trustworthy babysitter and before she begins to work, there are things that need to be straightened up. Family rules and routines vary from family to family so some of the points discussed in this article are only for guidance.

It is a good idea to have a checklist of what needs to be done to ensure proper child care. First and foremost this checklist should include emergency numbers such as poison control, your phone numbers and address just in case something happens and emergency personnel need to come to your house. This checklist should also include children’s play time if the children are of age.

State clearly on the list whether you allow computer usage and to what extent can the babysitter use it if you allow it. Is the sitter allowed to answer phone calls or you prefer them going to answering machines? This should be stated clearly.

TV viewing by the kids is one aspect that needs to be stated in the list. When are the children supposed to watch TV and what channels. Make sure that the sitter is able to operate the TV system. Include in the list such things as bedtimes for the kids and whether the kids need assistance in things like brushing their teeth. Make sure you list every detail. Let the sitter know how to operate appliances such as microwave or ovens.

One area that needs to be addressed well is the medication part if any of your kids is under medication. Be sure to include instructions on how this medicine is dispensed. If you have an alarm system, let the sitter know to turn it off. Do you have pets in the house? Let the sitter know how to handle them whether you want them in the cage if they are enclosed or you want them out.

These are only a few points to guide you in informing your new babysitter of what is expected of her and they differ from family to family. You can add as many more points as possible and make sure you hang this list in a conspicuous place such as on the fridge.
