Tuscan Villas Out of the many beautiful holiday spots, Tuscany, situated in Italy, is one of the best. The cities like, Florence, Sienna, Pisa, and Lucca have a touch of Renaissance beauty. There are other authentic villages, castles, villas and vineyards which together make Tuscany a peaceful and relaxing tourist spot. As one of the finest places in the world for a villa holiday, it offers peace and relaxation alongside some of the finest Renaissance art, architecture, local food and wine any destination has to offer. Three of Tuscany’s unmissable attractions are listed below. The Leaning Tower, Pisa Construction of this world famous tower began in 1173 and it started leaning a few years later due to subsidence of the ground underneath. Major maintenance works to ensure the tower didn’t collapse were completed in 2001 and tourists can now climb it once again. Other unmissable sites in Pisa include the Duomo di Pisa and the Baptistry, which are both within walking distance of the famous tower. Tuscany is an ideal location for a holiday, with many people favouring a villa in the peaceful Tuscan countryside, from which you can drive to the region’s wonderful towns and cities. The Palio, Sienna Taking place twice every year on 2nd July and 16th August, this horse race takes place in the main square of the town and is deeply rooted in Sienese tradition. The Palio was first run in 1701 and is connected with the origin of the Contradas of Siena (the districts into which the town is divided). Seventeen districts compete for ten places in the race; seven by right and three of which are random. Spectators include the local Sienese people who feel a deep loyalty to one of the contrade, and large numbers of tourists who travel to the town especially for the race. Massive crowds gather in the centre of the square, with the race taking place on its outer rim, and it is an exciting and invigorating experience being so close to the action. Uffizi Gallery, Florence Probably the most famous art gallery in the world, the Uffizi is housed within the architecturally magnificent Palazzo degli Uffizi. The gallery has the best collection of Renaissance art in the world by artists such as Botticelli (including The Birth of Venus), Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo and Duccio. Queues to enter often stretch right round the side of the building and you should expect a few hours wait to get in. The gallery’s restaurant has a large balcony which overlooks the main piazza and offers fantastic views of the Palazzo Vecchio.
