Like yellow, red is a colour that is linked with love, sex & energy. it too can be over powering if over used, however it is fabulous to attract attention.

Evoking images of style, modernism, fashion & sophistication, grey is usually used on areas that are related to fashion, design & technology.

Purple is a mix of blue and red. it has the highlights of red, but has more vibrant properties than blue. It conjures up thoughts of royalty, religion & luxury. However, it's not a colour that is often used in designing for the world wide web.

Orange is extremely young although also warm, stimulating & friendly. used in web sites, it can also be welcoming.

Grey is a popular colour for backgrounds for sites. like black, its credible for showing off images & it creates credible contrast between different colours.

It is clear that colours don't make a web site look beautiful, although they also have an effect on user experience and can thus dictate how successful a site can be. getting the right colours can evoke a website that users can discover and will make them more willing to use, explore and promote the website to friends. getting the colour choices wrong can inadvertently put users off and have them leave your site for somebody elses.
