By: Robert Boughner

You may already be familiar with the existence of the public birth records. The government keeps the records in each state in the United States. These are the documents that contain the birth certificate or birth records containing the date of birth. The details that are included in the document are usually from the hospital records of birth. Also, through this record, you will be able to get the demographic and historical details of an individual.

Today, the records are kept in government offices specifically the local registrar in the place where the individual was born. The entries are organized electronically to make it easier for the retrieval of the information.

There are rules that are applied when retrieving the birth records. There are only a number of people that can access the birth records to protect a person’s privacy and individuality. Added to this, the registrant or the person listed on the record has the primary right for his own birth records. Added to this, his or her parents and children are also entitled to know the birth records. Aside from the immediate family, the legal guardian of the registrant and the legal representative or lawyer of the registrant can gain access to these details. Lastly, an heir of the person listed can also get the birth records depending on his purposes. Today, it is easier to perform the search of these records since it is now possible to get them through the Internet. You may also get these kinds of information through going to the Health department of the area that you were born.

For some individuals, they would need to have a copy of the records of birth of a person for the purposes of knowing the real age of the person. Along with this, the birth record can be the strongest claim of an individual proving his age. As this is a private data, the people also have a use when it comes to knowing a person’s parents. There are many companies that require the submission of a copy of this document to verify if the person’s identity is found true and correct. When you are applying for passport or driving license, you will also have access to the mentioned documents and submit them to the proper authorities.

There are other individuals or group that aims to have a certified copy of the birth records. Although there are uncertified copies, these are not acceptable for legal reasons.
